Sandra Asquith
1942 - 2026 | Sheffield
Sandra (mum) passed away gently at 16:24 on Sunday, 15th February 2026, after her short battle with Ovarian Cancer, with me, her son (Mark), sitting beside her in Darnall Grange Nursing Home. She would have been 84 on 11th March 2026. She had been able to enjoy Christmas surrounded by her whole immediate family (Simona, Maya, Jason, Phil and Corina) and to exchange final messages of love and support with her wider family (Mitu, Ticu and Brendusa), everyone who loved and/or cared for Sandra at Darnall Grange, and with those who she knew and who were aware of her illness and who were, as always, eager to show their love and support (Kay, Paul, Dave and Jean, Simon, Adrian, Brenda, Sharon, Diane, Martin, Margaret, Ruby and Andrew).
In her key hour of need, on Friday, 13 February 2026, and in addition to everyone at Darnall Grange, St Luke's were there for Sandra, loaning a syringe driver that was essential in managing her pain over the next two days. St Luke's cared for both Sandra's mother (Margaret) and Sandra's husband (Alan) previously in their hours of need, as they too battled cancer, for which we have always been, and will remain, eternally grateful.
For everyone who knew Sandra, from her roots in Attercliffe, life in Handsworth, and her final years in Darnall Grange, there is no need to describe what a wonderful and determined woman she was. So it should come as no surprise that she was adamant that she didn't want anyone to be upset or sad at her passing, rather for them to live their lives, and love and care for their families, and if they did attend her cremation (at 11:45 am on Thursday 5 March 2026 at City Road), for them to be dressed in bright colours and to celebrate her life with fond memories. Afterwards, everyone is welcome at the Old Crown pub at 406 Handsworth Road, Handsworth, S13 9BZ, where her lifelong favourite bakers, Bonds (David), will provide some cold food.
Sandra did not want money spent on flowers; rather, she wanted donations to be made to St Luke's, given all they had done for her family and could do for other families in the future.
I hope you, like me, will take comfort and strength from Sandra's wishes and know that you are honouring and remembering her in the ways that she wanted, for her and for you.

Such a privilege to have Sandra and the Asquith family as neighbours for over 60 years. A truly special person she always made the time of day and looked out for us. Such a lovely lady who could light up any room immediately with witty conversation and even total strangers could warm to easily. We have fond memories of dining out together on several occasions as you worked the room making people smile. We will always remember your kindness. wisdom and modesty. Despite your every day pain , you showed us that your life has a purpose. To inspire us , to teach us that the simple things and the love are the most important. We will miss you so much.

I felt blessed and honoured to meet a person like Sandra. I truly loved Sandra with all my heart. She was so kind, and so wise, she always gave us the best piece of advice. She had so much patience to listen to us, she was so humble. She enjoyed life, she was brave, she was very funny and she was an absolute fighter. But above all, she was the best mum for my partner Mark. The only thing Sandra didn't teach us was how to live without her. Rest in peace, Sandra!
