Alasdair Buchanan
1981 - 2022 | Sheffield
Alasdair grew up in Edinburgh (and briefly Preston), studied Law at Glasgow Uni and then trained towards the British Mountain Guide qualification. He moved to Sheffield for the climbing, married Liz in 2008 and was a very present father to the kids, Elspeth and Angus. In later years, he worked as a teaching assistant at Bradway Primary and loved it. He never lost his love for the outdoors.

I’m so sorry for your loss, sending love to you and the children. I remember Alasdair being so proud watching Elspeth at English Schools’ last year, and he always seemed to be smiling. Jodie xx

Thank you for all the happy memories, for teaching us how to climb and that parenting didn't mean the end of adventure. Sorely missed.

So sorry to hear this, Alasdair was always a pleasure to chat to at athletics and I cannot believe how active and positive he remained throughout the last year or so given how ill he was. Our thoughts are with your family, he will be much missed.

Kind. Clever. Gentle. Passionate. Determined. Dedicated. Lover of mountains, family, friends, chocolate biscuits, epics, parties, snow, rock, ice-cream, chips, adventure, history, politics, books, education. Taken from us way too soon. Brave till the end. In our hearts forever. Alasdair.

Very sorry to hear of the passing of Alasdair. He was such a kind man and always lovely to chat with. He was great company on our trip south last year to watch the English schools cross country race, in which he got to watch his daughter Elspeth run in, for which he was extremely proud. Such a great loss and sending love to his family at this difficult time.
