Laura was my friend and colleague. She was brave, beautiful, kind and generous. Above all she loved and was loved. Throughout Laura’s illness, I baked her a weekly loaf of bread. It was a small, practical act of love both in the giving and receiving that gave me purpose amid the enormity of Laura’s cancer, and gave Laura some tasty toast when the chemo made her sick. In Laura’s memory I am embarking on a year of making and giving a weekly loaf in return for a donation to St Luke’s, where she spent her final few weeks and was so kindly cared for. It’s a project called Laura’s Loaf in honour of my wonderful friend.
