We have created this page in loving memory of our one-of-a-kind mum, mum-in-law and Mama, Joan Burchell. Beautiful on the inside and out. Talented but so humble, she radiated love, kindness, warmth and positivity. She had a unique ability to make all those she met feel positive and special. She was an integral part of our family - intertwined in all we did together. She had so much love to give and would do anything to help others. Mama loved a giggle, a cuddle and a glass of wine. “Ooh duck” she would often say. An incredible role model, she embraced every opportunity that came her way and lived life to the full - setting an example to us all with her no-nonsense, honest approach to life. Every minute of every day she was loved by her family and, through life, we will carry with us the most amazing memories of special times with her. At the end, the care she received from St Luke’s Hospice was outstanding - Mama was treated with kindness and dignity in calm and comfortable surroundings - just what this special lady deserved. Although Mama was only an in-patient for a very short time, we will will be forever grateful for the professionalism, compassion and kindness shown by the St Luke’s team to our family. In memory of Mama, we would welcome donations to St Luke’s to support this unique and wonderful Sheffield institution.

I'm making this donation to St Luke’s in memory of our one-in-million Mama. I know you'd have felt so lucky to have been looked after there at the end. You’d have said ‘Ooh duck, it’s like a hotel here, and the staff are so lovely and kind.’ I feel the luckiest person to have had you in my life for so long. You always made me feel so loved, safe and happy. I miss your cuddles, your advice. I miss calling in for a cuppa. I miss our shopping trips and adventures. I just miss spending time with you. I miss you. Everywhere I look I keep finding little reminders of you - the Florida keyring you gave to Felix, the M&Ms in the treat drawer, the elephant stool you bought the boys, the super strong jug you gave us which is so handy! You were so wise and would move heaven and earth to help me and the boys. I’ll always carry you with me, Mama. Wherever I go and whatever I do, I’ll always try and be more like Mama. Our life together was built on love, and I will love you forever. Thank you for being the best Mama I could ever wish for x
