I am very sad to say Rodney passed away after a short illness in St Luke's Hospice on Friday 30th November 2018. I was with him and he was comfortable and in no pain thanks to the wonderful care he received in St Luke's in the last week of his long and happy life. We had 63 very happy years together - a wonderful, kind and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was my soulmate and my best friend. We will all miss him terribly but have a lifetime of memories to share. He is at peace now. Thank you to all our family and friends for your support and kindness in recent months and over many years. Thank you to all our friends and family who attended Rodney's wonderful celebration of his life and send off last Friday. We are pleased to say that over £600 was raised for St Luke's from our collection (£452.02 in cash and the rest in cheques which have gone to St Luke's). We hope that this goes in some way towards a much needed resource or service and helps to carry on the wonderful care and support you give to patient and family alike - in remembrance of a wonderful husband, father, Grandpa and friend. With love and thanks from Betty and family xxx

I first met Rodney when I stayed at the Lindrick Hotel for several months in 1972, having just moved to Sheffield from London. He was great company with a mischievous sense of humour and we became good friends. I continued to visit the Lindrick after I had settled in Sheffield and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere that was always there. I lost contact after he and Betty moved to Scholes but bumped into them a few years ago at a Sheffield Art Fair and Rodney still had a twinkle in his eye! I have very fond memories of him.

    Thoughts

I first met Rodney when he had the Staindrop Hotel with Betty. My two lasting memory's are; Him sat in the office with half a pint of bitter after a busy evening function, every one busy around him and him waiting for everyone to go so he could go to bed! Then when he was never happier than coming back from the abattoir after selecting his sirloins and ribs for the following week and boning them out for Sunday roast. Over the years he was a great boss and turned into a good mentor and friend and I will greatly miss our chats. Love John and Sue xx
